Zane Ernest Clapsaddle, age 90, formerly of Brown City, passed away on Apr 10, 2018. He was born on Jan 24, 1928, and was one of four children of Russell and Mark (Clark) Clapsaddle. Zane is survived by Hazel his beloved wife of 72 years, and their children, Larry (Suzanne), Shari Squires, Randy (Martha) and Brian (Lisa) and their families. Zane also has one surviving sister, Pauline Huffman. Zane grew up in Brown City and Fife Lake, and graduated from Brown City High School in 1946. He married Hazel Thompson on Apr 17, 1946, shortly before enlisting in the US Army. Following his military service, he and Hazel returned to the Pontiac area, where they began their family. He spent the majority of his career as a technical writer for Chrysler Corp.
Zane had extensive knowledge of mechanics and engineering, mostly self-taught. He dug the basement to their first house by hand, carrying out wheel barrow loads of dirt, often with a child perched on top. Over the years he rescued and rebuilt numerous vehicles, including the family dune buggy. He moved and rebuilt buildings and could fix anything. He also was a good sketch artist, although many of his creations were on napkins, restaurant placemats, and the corners of newspapers. Although Zane was rarely an openly demonstrative person, he was deeply protective and supportive of those he loved. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Wayne, and his sister, Betty Stacy.
