Former Houghton Lake resident Winfield L. “Brownie” Stuck, 87, Traverse City, died Jun 1, 2017, at Munson Hospice, with his family by his side.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate his life. Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City handled arrangements.
He was born Jun 11, 1929, in Gladwin, to the late Lester W. and Marian E (Morrison) Stuck. He moved with his family to Houghton Lake at the age of 15 and graduated from Houghton Lake High School in 1947.
He started businesses with his brother, Lee, including Stuck’s Furniture, Houghton Lake and West Branch Big Boy restaurants, Stop-N-Go stores, gas stations and Taco Bells, and upon retirement sold them to their children.
He was a charter member of White Deer Country Club and loved the game of golf. He had a hole-in-one Apr 28, 1957, at the old Heights golf course. He was a member of Mid-Forest Lodge for many years. He hunted pheasants in South Dakota for more than 40 years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and brothers, Lee Stuck in 2014 and Jerry Stuck in 2015.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Mary; children, Randy (Michelle) Stuck of Traverse City, April (Dave Mertz) Stuck of Traverse City, Scott (Barb Nurenberg) Stuck of Jupiter, FL; sister, Marilyn Thompson of Grand Rapids; stepdaughters, Christina (Jeff) Kass of Clawson and Stacey (Jamie) Boettcher of Lapeer; grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, Jeff (Colleen Duke) Stuck, Brad (Julia Lilley) Platt, Leanna (Scott Rendell) Harvey, Brittany (Justin) Pence, Brian Kass, Gideon, Greighson, Garrison and Garret Boettcher; great grandchildren, Parker Randolph Stuck, Grace Lilley Platt and Eliza Rose Platt.
Memorial donations may be made to Traverse City’s Cherryland Humane Society.
