William J. Butler passed away Wed. The community was saddened Wednesday, February 5, by the sudden death of one of it’s oldest settlers who quietly passed away at his home with a heart attack. William Justin Butler, son of Sidney and Rachael Butler, was born near the town of Metamora in Lapeer County, MI, on Dec 4, 1874. In the spring of 1877 he came with his parents to a farm in Orange township in Kalkaska County, Where he lived until 1897 when he went to Detroit where he made his home for three years. He returned to Kalkaska county in 1900. In 1902, he was united in marriage to Jane Anne Hall of South Boardman. They then settled on their farm in Boardman Township, where he resided until he passed away February 5, 1947 at the age of 72 years, 2 months and one day. He was Justice of the Peace and Township Board member for many years, was also a member of the Gleaners. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bert and Harvey, two sisters, Olive Wonsey and Lucy Puffer and three sisters died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Jane, two sons, Ward and Norman, both of South Boardman, one daughter, MRs. Anna Stebbins of Kalkaska; one sister, Mrs. Nellie Shurtz of Pontiac; six grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at the Methodist Church in South Boardman, Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock with the Rev. A.R. Ellis of South Boardman, officiating. Arrangements are in charge of the Berg Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
