Mr. William J Ickes, 83, of Kalkaska, died Jul 31, 1998, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
Mr. Ickes moved to Kalkaska from VanBuren County, where he operated the Kalkaska Feed and Supply from 1968 until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was a member of the Decatur American Legion Post 309 and the St. Joseph Lodge 437 F & AM and Berrien County Low 12 Club. He was also affiliated with the Kalkaska Church of Christ. His hobbies included hunting and fishing.
Born in VanBuren County on Nov 17, 1914, he was the son of Grover and Amy Hamilton Ickes. On Oct 7, 1939, in Cass County, he married Beryle Osborn, who survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by son Richard (Nancy) Ickes of Kalkaska; daughters Lee Wilder of South Boardman and Kathy Valdie of St. Joseph; five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by brothers Lytle and Thomas Ickes and grandchildren Mark, Chuckie, Shannon and David Wilder, and Judy Angel.
Funeral services were held Aug 3 at the Kalkaska Church of Christ. E. Dan Johnson officiated. Masonic graveside services were held Aug 4, at Hamilton Township Cemetery, Decatur.
