William Darke, 81, formerly of Kalkaska, passed away May 7, 2004, at his home in Muskegon after a short illness.
He was born on Mar 8, 1923 in L'Anse, one of nine children of Hubert and Ruby (Riley) Darke.
Mr. Darke leaves to mourn his passing his wife, RoxAnne, and one stepson, Dustin, at home. From a previous marriage he also leave a son, William John, and daughters, Sandra Kay Strait and Nancy Ann. Bill is also survived by a sister, Joyce (Lyle) Kniss of Bellaire and a brother, Donald F (Nova) of Kalkaska.
Bill was raised on a farm near "Pot Hole Corners" in Excelsior Township and attended Lewis school and Kalkaska High School prior to his induction into the US Army. He was a WWII veteran, serving with the 1145th MP Co. (AVN) in England and Belgium.
He worked as a yard foreman for Cash Way Lumber and as a maintenance man for the Muskegon Heights school system. Bill appreciated the outdoors and especially enjoyed camping and fishing.
Mr. Darke is to be interned in Egleston Township Cemetery in Muskegon.
