William Byron Vance
Funeral services were held here recently for William Byron Vance, 77, of RR3, Tweed, (Cozy Cove), a former lumberman and farmer.
Rev. I. E. Munro conducted the service at McConnell Funeral Home. Interment was in Thomasburg Cemetery.
Mr. Vance was born at Moneymore in Hungerford Township, the son of James and Caroline Vance, and was educated at Moneymore and Thomasburg. HE married the former Dora Helbert and they resided in the Thomasburg area until 1948. For 14 years they resided at Perth.
He owned and operated a portable sawmill and was also involved in farming and threshing.
During the First World War he served three years as a signaller in the Canadian artillery, including two years in France. He was a member of Branch 428 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Tweed, and his comrades held a memorial service in the chapel.
He was an active lawn bowler in Perth and was a zealous hunter and angler.
He was past steward and elder of the United Church in Perth and an active member of St. John’s United Church, Tweed.
Surviving besides his wife, are three sons, Horace of Belleville, Burton of Tweed, and Jack (Brigadier – General) of Ottawa and three daughters, Mrs. Haley (Betty) Flower of Renfrew, Mrs. David (Jeanne) Livingston of Toronto and Mrs. Dennis (Carolyn) Gaunt of Burnaby, BC. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. John (Ethel) Thompson of Stayner, Ont and Mrs. Bert (Hilda) Freeman of Tweed. He was predeceased by a brother, Harvey Vance of Bloomfield.
