William A. Campbell, 64, of Fife Lake, a retired carpenter, died Monday night, Dec 21, 1987, at Munson Medical Center. Mr. Campbell had been a lifelong resident of the Fife Lake area, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He served in the Marine Corps during WWII, and was a former life member of VFW Post 3033 in Mt Pleasant. At the time of his death, he was a member of Land O’ Lakes VFW Post 8684 in Kalkaska. He formerly served as a substitute mail carrier in Fife Lake. Mr. Campbellwas born in Grand Traverse County Apr 23, 1923 to Wayne (Toot) and Nellie Stampfler Campbell. He was married to Frances Eleanor Robinson who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Donald of St Petersburg, FL, and Steve of Wayland; three daughters, Barbara Jeann Watt of Fenton, Marilyn Campbell of Mt Pleasant, and Mary Jo Freeman of Fife Lake; one brother, Duane (Ed) Campbell of Lansing; one sister, Jeanette Daft of Holt; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and one great grandson. One granddaughter, Wendy Jean Bowers, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Thu, Dec 24, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Rev. Beverly Prestwood-Taylor officiated. Burial was in Garfield Township Cemetery, Kalkaska County under the auspices of Land O’Lakes Post 8684.
