Wilber V. Hatley Jr, 65, of Kalkaska, left to be with the Lord Mon, Apr 8, 1996, and will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
Born Jun 10, 1930, in South Boardman, he was the son of Wilbur and Lura (Graham) Hatley Sr. On Jun 26, 1948, he was united in marriage to Sally Scadin at the Mancelona United Methodist Church.
He served with the U.S. Coast Guard, and in 1949, moved to Lincoln Park where he worked as a superintendent in the Detroit building trades. He was also a reserve officer with the Lincoln Park Police Department.
Returning to Kalkaska in 1978, he worked as village manager until retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Kalkaska United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club and Masonic Lodge No 398. He served as a Boy Scout Troop Master and church youth group leader while living in Lincoln Park. He was recently elected to the Kalkaska Village Council. He loved his God, family, and community, and enjoyed hunting and reading.
Surviving are his wife Sally; two sons, Michael and wife Gloria of Southfield and William and wife Karen of Lincoln Park; one daughter, Patti and husband, David Bury of Kalkaska; his mother, Lura Hatley of Riverview; and grandchildren, Rebecca, Melissa, Mary, Courtney, and Jeremy.
He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Patricia Hatley Howton.
Funeral services were held Friday at the Kalkaska United Methodist Church, Revs. Charles VanLente and Richard Riley officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
