Dr. Wayne D. Woodby, 85, of Holland, died Nov 21, 1997 at his home.
He was born in Beaverton on Feb 25, 1912. He married Marian Beck, a Kalkaska teacher, in August of 1939. He received his BA from Central Michigan University and his MA and PhD in education from Michigan State University.
Dr. Woodby was principal of the Utica and Edenville School Districts. He came to Kalkaska as principal in the fall of 1937 and served as superintendent from 1938 to 1944. He was superintendent of Fennville, Warren Consolidated, and Centerline School Districts, retiring in June 1973.
Surviving besides his wife Marian are: Jane (Albert) Osman of Holland, David (Nona) Woodby of Canton Township, Timothy (Rosemary) Woodby of Shelby Township and Abigail (James) Searls Jr of Zeeland; brother Donald (Arline) Woodby of Sebring, FL; sister Virginia (Ernest) of Los Altos, CA; seven grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Services were held Nov 24 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverends William Dobbs and Bea Rose officiating. Burial was in Lakeshore Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First United Church or Hospice of Holland.
