Walter E. Huston, 75, of Traverse City, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Munson Medical Center, with his loving family by his side.
Walter was born on Feb. 17, 1933, to the late Wylie E. and Josephine J (Bogart) in Manton. On June 27, 1986, Walter married Joanne (Taylor) Huston in Traverse City.
Walter answered the call of duty as a young man and joined the United States Army National Guard.
After serving his country, he was a constable in Manton and later worked for the Traverse City Area Public Schools, retiring after 22 years.
In his spare time he loved polka music, deer hunting, and most of all, spending time and watching football with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife Joanne; daughter, Linda Huston of Traverse City; stepdaughter, Nancy (Paul) Groesser of Cedar; stepdaughter, Sharon Williams of Interlochen; two sons, Steve (Mary) Huston of Traverse City and Greg Huston of Traverse City stepson, Charles (Rhonda) Bailey of Texas; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Alice (Fred) Hutching of Amirillo, Texas; three brothers, Marvin (Bonny) Huston of Manton, Butch Huston of Washington, D.C., and John Huston of Cadillac; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 18, from 1 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at 2 pm on Saturday, July 19, 2008, also at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with visitation held two hours prior. The Rev. Cordes will officiate the service. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Traverse City.
