Violet M. (Secrist) Smith, 77, of Midland, died Thursday, July 30, 2009, at MidMichigan Stratford Village.
The daughter of the late Robert and Lena (Hathaway) Secrist was born on May 16, 1932, in Atlanta, Mich., where she was raised and educated.
Violet married Gus W. Smith on Feb. 6, 1949. After 36 years of marriage, Gus died on June 13, 1985. Violet had been a school bus driver for 26 years. She enjoyed remodeling houses and doing crafts. She loved traveling, being with friends and raising her children. She was always there for family and friends. Violet is survived by her son, Kelly Smith of Ashgrove, Mo.; her daughters, Debra (LeRoy) Alcox of Midland, Rhonda Kaufman of Midland and Denay (Rich) Brien of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her son in law, Mark Warner of Arizona; her sister, Linda (Ken) Carlson; and her sisters-in-law, Jean Secrist and Jacqueline Secrist. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Robin Warner; and her brothers, Ed and Vernon Secrist.
Violet’s family will meet with friends at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, from 2-4 p.m. Burial will be in Midland Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be offered to Henry Ford Hospital Liver Transplant Program.
