Mrs. Vera Peck, 88, of Sparta, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the Lord's Day, Sep 5, 1999, at Meadowlark Retirement Village.
Mrs. Peck was born in Pellston, Nov 22, 1910, the daughter of George N and Ellen (Courter) Bennett. She graduated from Kalkaska High School in 1927 at the age of 16 and was class valedictorian. During her life she was blessed by God in many ways but especially so in later years with the ability and gift to write many inspirational poems.
On Dec 1, 1929, she married Ralph Peck, a marriage that was to last nearly 65 years until the Lord called him home on Mar 14, 1994. Also preceding her in death were twin infant daughters, two brothers, and two sisters.
Mrs. Peck is survived by her daughters Virginia (Howard) Matthews of Grass Lake and Ellen (Gerald) Mullen of Sparta (Kent City); nine grandchildren; many great grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren and many step great grandchildren; brother in law Martin Peck of Kalkaska; sister in law Doris MacDonald of Traverse City; and many nieces and nephews.
The service of praise and thanksgiving for the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ was Tuesday afternoon at Pederson Funeral Home in Rockford; Pastor Timothy Smith officiated. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs.
