Thomas Charles Francis. Tommie was born in Ypsilanti, MI on Apr 17, 1938, the son of Charles and Esther Francis. He was the youngest of four children – John Francis, Helen Anne Francis Marsh, and Marlene Francis Heil. He always enjoyed visiting his grandparents John and Lena Stachlewitz at their home on Railroad Street to watch the trains. He loved the trains and kept records of those going down the local rails. He loved waving to the train engineers and they looked forward to waving back. He always had a love for animals, especially cats. He never drove so he definitely got the 10,000 steps a day before the rest of the world started to count steps. Tom worked as a janitor for St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ypsilanti for over 25 years. Later in life he moved to the Senior Highrise in downtown Ypsilanti so that he was close to the local businesses and his daily breakfast at Abe’s Coney Island Restaurant, the same one President Clinton stopped at on the way to the airport after a speech at Eastern Michigan University. He loved sports and always listened to the games on his favorite little radio. He loved the Detroit Tigers and could always give you the team’s statistics. Tom was an outgoing individual and there was never someone he didn’t converse with. He was a devote Catholic and you would see him in the 9 am Mass every Sunday and sometimes during the week as well. He is survived by his sister, Helen Anne Marsh and many nieces and nephews. Interment at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Ypsilanti, MI.
