Thelma M. Thomas, 69, of Kalkaska, died May 20, 1998, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Kalkaska on May 5, 1929, to John and Opal Lense Morris. She married Basil Thomas in South Boardman on Feb 21, 1949.
Thelma spent her early years in Kalkaska and then resided in Mendon and Portage until 11 years ago, when she returned to Kalkaska. She operated a coffee house in Portage from 1961 until 1969. She was a member of the Kalkaska Historical Society, the Kalkaska Genealogical Society, and in her retirement became an avid quilter.
Surviving are her husband Basil; son Russell (Cathy) Thomas of Portage; daughters Audrey (E.J.) Hart of Plainwell and Patricia Hassinen of Bloomfield, IA; brothers Glen (Pat), Harold (Brenda) and Robert Morris, all of Kalkaska; sisters Edith Dustin of Metamora, Wilma Adkins of Westland, Doris (Gene) McLean of kalkaska and Marilyn (Ron) Strong of Florida; and grandchildren Deana and Brian Pahl, Erin and Christopher Bolda; Matthew and Amanda Hassinen, Todd Hassinen, Nikki and Bill Perrine, Jason Thomas and Shandra Thomas, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sister Vera Roote.
Funeral services were held May 30 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. E. Dan Johnson officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
