Terrence J Cross, age 64, of 12106 W. Foot Lake Rd, Manistique (Foot Lake), MI, died accidentally on Jan 3, 2007, as a result of a tree falling on him while he was harvesting wood on his property in Inwood Township.
Terry was born Aug 6, 1942, in Kalkaska MI, the son of Merlin and Lucinda (Bateman) Cross and was a graduate of Kalkaska High School with the Class of 1960. Following graduation he began working on road construction in the Chicago area.
On Feb 10, 1968, he married the former Sally J Hanning in Saginaw, MI. They made their home in Saginaw and Terry was employed as a carpenter.
In 1970, the moved to the Upper Peninsula and Terry started the Cross General Contractors company. He retired in 1993.
Terry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed cutting wood, deer and bird hunting, fishing, making maple syrup in the spring, camping, and taking the family on their annual fishing trip to Canada and pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota. Most important in Terry's life was the time he spent with his family.
Terry is survived by his wife, Sally J Cross of Foot Lake; sons, Wade (Lynda Benson) Cross of Crystal Falls and Travis (Jeanne LeMire) Cross of Rapid River; grandchildren, Wyatt and Hannah; special friends, Logan and Josie; his father, Merlin Cross of Traverse City; sisters, Susan (John) Yonker of Frankenmuth, Sherryl (Ron) Hellinga of Traverse City, and Jacquelyn (John Sturgis) Miller of Venice, FL; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucinda P Cross.
The family will greet friends from 3 to 4 pm Fri, Jan 12 at the Hiawatha Country Church in Manistique.
A Celebration of Life service will follow at 4 pm at the church with Pastor Paul Varoni officiating.
