Stelle Kornacka Zur, 96, of Mancelona, and formerly of Detroit, died Fri, Oct 6, 2000, at her home.
She was born May 7, 1904, in Rumunki, Poland, the daughter of John and Valerie (Hezynsky) Kornacka. She came to the United States on Nov 2, 1922, and lived on year in Cleveland, OH. She then moved to Detroit in 1923 to be closer to her family. On May 31, 1924, in Detroit, she married Chester S. Zur. They made their home in Detroit. He died on Dec 25, 1965, in 1980, Stella moved to Mancelona.
Stella was a member of the Polish Women's Alliance. Stella enjoyed reading, millinery, sewing, creative cooking and baking, canning, mushrooming, and playing bingo. She loved her family.
She is survived by daughters Evelyn Baranowski and Regina Baranowski, both of Mancelona; grandchildren Judy (Paul) Petrovich of Holly, Joel (Karen) Baranowski of Pleasant Ridge, Paul (Noreen) Baranowski of Port Huron, Eugene (Jeanne) Baranowski of Madrid, Spain, and Michael (Cyndi) Baranowski of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Joel, Ariel, Everett, Aaron, Melody, Adam, and Grant Baranowski; sisters Irene (John) Gorcynskia of Rumunki, Poland; and brother Felix (Helen) Kornacka of Rumunki, Poland; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents' brothers Joseph and Chester Kornacka; sisters Sophia Szymanska and Pauline Wajtewicz; and sons in law Thaddeus J Barnowski and Eugene J Barnowski.
Funeral services were Oct 10 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mancelona; Father R. Dale Magoon officiated. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona. Memorials may be given to Masses.
