Stanley Steed, Sr., 84, of Traverse City, died Tue, Apr 3 at Munson Medical Center.
Born Dec 2, 1917 in Grant Township, he was the son of James N and Bertha (Bye) Steed. On Jun 1, 1936 in Buckley, he married the former Helen Newmarch, who survives.
Stan had one of his first jobs working with his father in law Ernie Newmarch as a carpenter, and in the early 40’s he worked at Parsons Corp. as a maintenance carpenter. He later became manager of Marketing and traveled all through Europe developing and enlarging the Helicopter Rotor Blade business. He then helped develop and build all of the liquid oxygen fuel lines for the Saturn V booster which went to the moon. Stan retired with over 40 years of service with Parsons in 1986, 16 of those working years he spent in Stockton, CA. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, a founding member of the Optimist Club in TC, a member of the Wig Wam Club in TC, the Elks Club, and the American Helicopter Society.
