Stanley L Ward, 89, of Kalkaska, passed away on Tue, Jun 3, 2008 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. He was born on Jun 2, 1919 in Owosso, the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Hopson) Ward.
Stanley was dedicated to the Civil Conservation Corps and served in the CCC Camp diligently. He had a great love for his country and served during WWII in the US Navy. on Aug 22, 1964, Stanley married the former Treva Bartlett in Lansing. He retired from the Wohlert Corporation in Lansing after 38 years where he worked repairing machinery. Stanley loved working on anything mechanical. He loved collecting anything and had numerous and varied collections.
Surviving Stanley is his daughter, Peggy J (Ray) Smijkal of Rapid City, SD; his stepson, Jim (Linda) Bartlett of Tampa, FL; siblings, Winston Ward, Gwenetta Hoover, and Juanita Mansfield; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his longtime friends, Don Tillistson of Lansing and Tim Kmett of Kalkaska.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Treva who passed away in 1993; and two brothers, Lyle Ward and Danny Ward.
A funeral service for Stanley was held Fri, Jun 6, 2008 at 11 am at the Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska with the Reverend Robert Stark of the Kalkaska United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation was held a half hour prior to the service. There was a graveside service on Sat, Jun 7 at 2 pm at the Chapel Hill Memorial Garden Cemetery in Lansing.
