Stanley F. Dontje of Cadillac died Fri evening, Nov 28, 2008 at his home. He was 83.
He was born Jul 10, 1925 in Manton to Frank and Dorothy (Smith) Dontje. He graduated from Manton High School in 1943. He married the former Virginia E. Atchison on Nov 9, 1946 in Cadillac and she preceded him in death on Oct 28, 2006.
Mr. Dontje retired from the Cadillac State Bank and NBD Bank in 1987 after 21 years of service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cadillac for 59 years, was a life member of the Cadillac Elks Lodge No. 680 for 63 years and was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Lodge. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, snowmobiling and traveling.
Survivors include his sons: Stephen (Kathy) Dontje of Cadillac and Michael (Karen) Dontje of Bay Village, OH; grandchildren: Stephanie of Cadillac, Nicholas and Kelly of Bay Village, OH; sisters, Betty (Dan) Cook of Waterford, and Annette (Bob) Johnston of North Muskegon; sister in law, Florence Dontje of Manton.
In addition to his wife of 60 years Virginia, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold; and infant sister, Lynette; and a sister, Eleanor Seeley.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac with Rev. Paul Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac. Friends may meet the family from 10 am until time of services Tue at the funeral home.
