Sharyn E. Susinko, 62, of Alden, passed away on Oct. 12, 2007, at her home. She was born Oct. 20, 1944, in Detroit, the daughter of William and Mildred (Chartier) Daykin.
Formerly of the Detroit area, Sharyn was a 20 year resident of the Kalkaska area. She graduated from Cass Tech High School of Detroit in 1962. Sharyn graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree and went on to receive her master's degree from Mary Grove College in Detroit. In November of 1967, she married Joseph Susinko. Sharyn worked at Sinai Hospital in Detroit for 20 years as a Substance Abuse Counselor. She had been a teacher in South Boardman and was a counselor at the Kalkaska County Sheriff's Department. She was also involved with Kalkaska Easter Cantata, as well as the local music theater. She had been a member of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. She was also a writer for The Leader and the Kalkasian newspaper. Sharyn and Joe are owners of the 3rd Street Cafe in Kalkaska.
Surviving Sharyn is her loving husband, Joe; her beloved son, Christopher (Rebekah) Susinko; and her cherished grandchildren, Kyle and Emily Susinko of Kalkaska.
Visitation for Sharyn will be today, Oct. 14, from 3 to 5 p.m., and Monday, Oct. 15, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 11 a.m., at the Kalkaska United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Robert Stark officiating. Burial will be at Rapid River Township Maple Grove Cemetery.
