Ruth M. Beckering, 86, a longtime resident of the Fife Lake area, died Jan 29, 1998, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
Mrs. Beckering spent her early years in Kalkaska County, and then resided in Grand Rapids until returning to Fife Lake in the 1960s. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the Boardman Area Senior Citizens. She enjoyed cooking.
Mrs. Beckering was born in Kalkaska County on Apr 15, 1911, daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine Wagner Birgy. she married James Beckering in Traverse City on Nov 12, 1937. He died on Dec 9, 1954.
Surviving are son James Beckering of Hickory Hills, IL; daughters Eleanor Bosman of Francestown, NH, and Janice Woods of Savannah, TN; brother Derwood Birgy of Fife Lake; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were brothers James, Eugene, Otto, Joseph, John, Leo, and Theodore, and sister Mary Lund. Funeral services were held Feb 1 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Fr. Patrick J. Barrett officiated. Burial was in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Fife Lake.
