Ronald L Cross, 69, of Kalkaska passed away on Aug 25, 2006, with his beloved family by his side at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center-LTC. 

On Sep 23, 1936, in Kalkaska, Ron was born to the late Elmer and Cora (Morris) Cross. 

Ron graduated from Kalkaska High School in 1954. 

A veteran of the US Army, Ron served our country from 1958 to 1961 and was stationed in Munich, Germany. During the Cold War with a high security rating. Ron was a Morris Code operator and was active in the Army Reserve until 1965, when he was honorably discharged. 

He married Barrie L Brothers on Oct 12, 1963, in Kalkaska. Together they owned Twin Birch Golf Course until 1979, Ron designed and built the first nine holes there. 

A lifelong resident of Kalkaska, Ron was a member of the VFW Post No 8684 and the Health & Healing Ministry. 

Ron is survived by his wife, Barrie, of 42 years; mother in law, Barbara Brothers of Kalkaska; sister in laws, Bonnie Brothers of Traverse City and Sharon Cross of Kalkaska; nieces and nephews, Ann (Jeff) Mitchell of Kalkaska, Michael (Mary) Walters of Killeen, TX, Judy (Lars) Ritola, Gary (Sarah) Walter of Traverse City, Tim Smith of Kalkaska, Carla Seiting, Dorothy Nelson and Robin (Fred) Azar, all of Kalkaska, and Sandy Strand of OR; and many great nieces and nephews. 

Preceding Ron in death were all of his siblings, Helen (Ernest) Walter, Phyllis (Robert) Smith; and his brother, Allie Cross, just 10 weeks ago. 

Visitation was held on Sun, Aug 27 from 5 to 9 pm at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska. The funeral service was Mon, Aug 28 at 2 pm at the funeral home, with Sister Augusta Stratz from the Health & Healing Ministry officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery with Kalkaska VFW Post 8684 and the Beebe Sherwood Post No 480 providing military honors.
