Robert W. Edwards, 80, of Kalkaska, passed away peacefully on Mon, Sep 14, at his home. His wife was by his side.
Born Sep 24, 1928, in Flint, he was the son of the late William and Martha (Cross) Edwards.
Bob was a veteran, serving his country in the US Air Force. He married Nina Moorehead on Dec 15, 1949, in Flint.
Bob retired from the military in 1969, after 20 years of service.
Retiring to Kalkaska, Bob operated the family business, Edwards Saw Mill, with his son Rodney. Later he would operate it with his daughters and wife.
After his first severe heart attack in 1985, he no longer ran the mill.
Bob's hobbies included fishing, playing guitar, and enjoying music. He and Nina would entertain and play for weddings, dances, and friends.
Bob also loved the computer and tried to teach many how to use it. While it was a breeze for him, he understood it was difficult for some.
Bob prized his Govax guitar and picking on the instrument was very relaxing to him. When recuperation was necessary, Bob always worked out a program for health- including weights, walking, exercise machines, and exercise, exercise, exercise!
Surviving is Nina, his wife of nearly 60 years; his children, Rodney Robert (Miriam) Edwards of Kissimmee, FL, Nita Maureen (James) Terry of Cocoa Village, FL, Norma Jean (Greg) Danopulos of Frostproof, FL, and Noreen Tureece Jennings of Greenville, SC; his grandchildren, Matthew "Umbaba" Ingersoll, Robert Phillip Edwards, Reuben Red Edwards, and Rudy Rudolph Edwards; a great grandson, Ezekiel Edwards, and his great granddaughter, Kayla Edwards.
Bob was preceded in death by his grandson Timothy Robert Edwards.
The funeral service was held Tue, Sep 22 at 2 pm. Visitation at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home was held one hour prior to the service.
Greg Danopulos officiated the service.
Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
