Robert L. Schaibly Sr., 60, formerly of Portland, died Sat at Central Michigan Community Hospital.
He was born May 9, 1920 in Lansing.
He was a retired 1st Lt. in the Army and served in WWII in Tunisia and Italy, a part of the 134th Infantry, 34th Division. He received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.
He was project engineer for the State of Michigan and Calvin College for 30 years. He moved to Shepherd, from Portland in 1974.
He was a member of the Joe Ulch VFW Post of Shepherd, Portland American Legion Post, Retired Army Officer Association, Belgian Horse Association, and Angus Association.
He was president, treasurer and secretary of the Portland School District School Board.
He is survived by his wife, Pauly; seven son, Robert L. Jr. of New Hampshire, William of Florida, Benjamin of George, Paul, Peter, Mark, and Matthew, all of Shepherd; two daughters, Mrs. John (Rebecca) Davidson and Robin Schaibly, both of Shepherd; two grandchildren; five brothers, Ezra of Bath, John of Haslett, Richard of Lansing, Fred of Lovells, and Kenneth of Charlotte; five sisters, Mrs. Olga Miller of Arizona, Mrs. Beatrice Richmond of East Lansing, Mrs. Katherine Gregg of Lovells, Miss Elnora Schaibly of Inkster, and Mrs. Nancy Krey of Grayling.
Services will be held Friday at 2pm at the Garber-Berry Funeral Home in Shepherd with Robert L Jr. Officiaitng. Military services will be given.
