Robert “Bob” Lee Hammond, age 89, passed away on Sun, Aug 7, 2022, after a long illness. He was born in Hartford City, IN to Myrtle and Jessie Alfred Hammond and had one sister, four brothers, one half sister, and one half brother.

Known by his nickname, Bob, he graduated from Hartford City High School in Indiana in 1951. After high school, he was in the U.S. Navy for four years serving 3 years as a Hospital Corpsman and one year with the U.S. Marines. After his active duty, he served three years with the Indiana State National Guard. It was while on active duty with the U.S. Navy and as a Hospital Corpsman at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bainbridge Maryland that he met his wife, the former Navy Nurse Lt. Lois M. Nelson of Milford, CT. They were married on Dec 4, 1954, and spent 64 years together.

In the late 1950s, Bob and Lois retired from the Navy and moved to Puerto Rico where they ran the family business, Puerto Rico Automatics, a screw machine shop, and raised two daughters. They returned to Connecticut in 1982 and lived in Woodbridge, CT for over 30 years. During that time bob worked for Dabko Industries in Bristol, CT and retired in 2010.

Bob was a devoted family man known for his good humor and easygoing, generous nature. Over the years he enjoyed many hobbies including playing guitar, leatherworking, and woodworking. He was fond of classic country music and sports and was a big fan of UConn Lady Huskies basketball. He also enjoyed bowling and played in several leagues in his younger years.

Bob was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Barbara; wife Lois; brothers, Jerry, Bill ,Buddy; and sister, Betty Dodds. He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Hammond, of New Haven, CT. He is also survived by his brother Jessie Alfred Hammond Jr, of Woodstock, GA; half sister, Sharon Alfrey; half brother, Larry Hurley residing in Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be interred at King’s Highway Cemetery in Milford, CT. No funeral services are planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the American Lung Association. The family of Bob Hammond wishes to thank Seacrest Retirement Center for their compassionate care.
