Robert E. Hardy, 80, of Kalkaska, died Tue, May 11, 1999, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
Mr. Hardy was a graduate of Central Michigan University and received his master's degree from the University of Michigan. He resided in Fruitport until 1957, when he moved to Kalkaska to become superintendent of Kalkaska Public Schools. He served in this capacity until 1973, when he was appointed deputy superintendent of the Traverse Bay Intermediate School District. Following his retirement in 1979, Mr. Hardy represented District 7 on the Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners. A life member of the MASA and the MEA, he was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Saladin Shrine, The Peoples Church and Kalkaska Rotary Club.
Born in Golden Valley, ND, on Sep 29, 1918, he is the son of Louis and Jenny Harris Hardy. On Jan 14, 1943, in Lennox, he married M. Marcella Muma, who survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by sons Robert H Hardy of Park City, UT, and Peter Hardy of Kalkaska; daughter Mary Heim of Canada; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Brothers Lester, David, Dayton, and Donald, and sister Margaret, preceded hi in death.
Funeral services were held May 14 at The Peoples Church; rev. Paul Karges officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
