Richard Robert Vieracker, 71, of Blue Lake Township, Kalkaska County, passed away unexpectedly Sun, Aug 16, 2009 at his home on Starvation Lake.
Dick was born on Oct 21, 1937 to the late Robert and Grace (Anderson) Vieracker in Geneva, IL. On May 7, 1960 Dick entered into marriage with the former Carol J Knopf in Hammond, IN. Dick served his country for many years as a member of the US Army Reserves.
Richard is survived by his wife of over 49 years, Carol J Vieracker of Blue Lake Township, three sons, Robert W. Vieracker of Phoenix, AZ, William R Vieracker of Grand Rapids, MI, and Richard (Candy) R Vieracker Jr of Rapid City, MI; six grandchildren, two sisters, Barbara (David) Meisner of Carol Stream, IL, and Roberta (Richard) Guill of Panducka, KY, his faithful companion, Jackson and many other loving family members and friends.
A graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, in 1966 and a resident of Northern Michigan since 1982. Dick retired in 1982 as Vice President of Finance from the Bendix, Industrial Group in Cleveland, OH, after retirement he was active in management consulting until 1985 as well as real estate sales until 1988 when he became Township Supervisor for Blue Lake Township. Dick was active in his community on the Ad Hoc Committee, member of the board of directors for Kalkaska County Hospice, and worked with Lutheran Social Services as a part of East Bay AIS Home. Dick also served with the Kalkaska County Economic Development Corp. and Township, Planning Commission, Board of Review, and Zoning Board of Appeals Chairman. Dick was a proud member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City where he gave his time as an elder, member of the Finance Committee, and Chairman of the Congregation.
Visitation for friends and family will be held from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Thu, Aug 20, 2009 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
Funeral services will take place at 11 am on Fri, Aug 21 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Robert M Zagore will officiate.
Grave side committal services will be held in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
