Richard "Dick" Peck, of Kalkaska, belived that death would be his next great adventure.
That adventure started for him on Jan 7, 2005. Dick was born Jan 16, 1928, to Esther Jane Bartholomew and Dayton Samuel Peck. Significant in his childhood where his grandmothers, Laume Peck and Grace Metzgar.
Dick married Gretchen Neihardt on Jul 2, 1949, in Traverse City and together they journeyed to the Alaska Territory where Dick did construction work and they started their family. When they returned to northern Michigan, Dick became known for the fine homes he built and his stonework which was part of a family tradition. In 1978, Dick and Gretchen moved to Superior, AZ, where they became a valued part of that community. When Dick's health issues became severe, they returned to Kalkaska so he could spend his remaining time with his children and grandchildren.
Dick's interests were many and varied, including local history, stock car racing, hunting, prospecting , and the outdoors. He was a veteran of the US Army.
Dick is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gretchen; children, Greata, Colleen (Clinton), Bill, Julie (Mark), and David (Bathie); as well as 12 grandchildren' three great grandchildren; beloved dogs, Jon and Lady; stepmother Doris McDonald; brothers, Dayton (Floy), Vinton (Barbara), and Ralph; sisters, Verna and June; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol; and brother, Jim.
A memorial service is set for Sat, Jan 22, at Rapid City Church of Christ Fellowship Hall at 11 am.
