Richard Leroy Runk II, 51, Middletown, OH, a former Blackford County resident, died Tuesday in the V.A. Medical Center, Cincinnati, after a long illness.
Mr. Runk, who was born in Blackford County, was retired from the Navy, where he served in Vietnam.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish, American Legion Post 218, Middletown, where he was Butler County commander, fourth district assistant sergeant-at-arms and a member of the fourth district post activities committee. He was past commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 131, and a member of F.R.A. 28. He received the Legion’s 1994 Americanism Award. He was also an avid slow-pitch softball player and camper.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Nola J Houk Runk; a son Richard L Runk III (wife: Kristi), Columbus; three daughters, Cheryl Bowman (husband: Scott), Senoia, GA, and Angela Workman (husband: James) and Nina Marie Runk, both of Middletown; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Runk Sr, Sun City, FL; three brothers, David Runk and Christopher Runk, both of Cincinnati, and Kim Runk, Omaha, NE; a sister, Janelle Spurlock, Hamilton, OH; four grandchildren, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2pm Friday in Joseph R. Baker Funeral Home, Middletown. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery, Middletown.
Calling will be 5 to 8 pm today at the funeral home.
