Former Kalkaska resident, Richard A Steele, 65, of Watervliet died Mon, Jun 7, 2004 at Lakeland Hospital, St Joseph, following an illness.
Richard was born Nov 29, 1938, in Chicago to John E. and Lilian M (Riehle) Steele. He was a 1957 graduate of Coloma High School and owned several retail businesses including The Place Party Store in Kalkaska, and most recently The Pour House and Paw Paw Lake Storage in Coloma. He also worked for I & M Electric Co. for a number of years when he was younger.
Richard loved golfing, hunting, and spending time with his family. He especially loved his dog, "Pudge." He will be missed by those who knew and loved him - especially his family.
Survivors include his four children: Richard A. Steele Jr of Salt Springs, FL, Michael P Steele of Buckley, Michele L Bell of Watervliet, and Mark J Steele of Howell; four grandchildren, Tabitha A. Bell, Samantha L Steele, Tyler A Steele, and Cherokee S Jones; two sisters, Marcia (Theodore) Troff of St Joseph and Gail (Michael) Wells of Benton Harbor; and two important lifelong friends, Craig VanDerVeer and Jim Chapman, both of Coloma.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, J. Paul Steele.
A private funeral service celebrating his life will be held at a later date.
