Phillip Lee Fuller of Cadillac died Sunday morning Jan 24, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. He was 73.
He was born May 27, 1936 in Cadillac to Alger and Leone (Winchester) Fuller. Phil had alifelong passion for racing that spanned 50 years, from racing stock cars to owning Merritt Speedway from 1978-79 to being an integral part of the Grahek-Brinks Racing Team through last race season. His passion and dedication to the sport touched many lives, including his children during their years of racing together under the 318 Fuller racing tradition from 1998 to 2003. Phil will always be a champion and the Fuller legacy will continue.
Phil retired from Saginaw Plumbers and Pipefitters U.A. Local No 85 and was recently driving bus for Tri-County Busing and greatly enjoyed the time with the children. Phils love for cats came from his parents, and he had adopted from shelters and taken in stray cats all of his adult life. If there was a needy cat in the area, it was a fortunate feline to find its way to Phil’s house.
Phil is survived by his three children, Sally J. Fuller, Corey M. Fuller, and Jodie L Fuller; his sister, Marilee Beerens; a brother, Gerry Fuller; and six nieces and nephews.
Prior to the start of race season, as well Phil’s wish, a day or gathering to share stories, memories, photographs and celebrate having been part of Phil’s life will be held at the Moose Lodge No. 531 in Cadillac, where he was an active member. An announcement will be published at a later date in the Cadillac News with details of the day and time.
Donations may be made to the Wonderland Humane Society in Cadillac or the Missaukee Humane Society in Lake City as a tribute to Phil’s love of animals and their rescue to forever homes.
