Peter Joseph Shinos, age 82, of Sault Ste Marie, MI passed away Thursday evening, Dec 25, 2014 at home surrounded by family.
Peter was born on Feb 21, 1932 on Manitoulin Island, Ontario, the son of the late John and Rebecca (Sampson) Shinos. He was a member of the First Nations Canada Manitoulin Island Band. At a young age Peter joined the US Army. He served his country as a transport driver during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Peter retired from the Corp of Engineers having worked a variety of jobs at the Soo Locks. He loved to play Keno and the Lottery. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV, as well as, going to softball and hockey games.
Peter is survived by three brothers: Frank Shinos of Traverse City, MI, Russell Shinos of Sault Ste Mare, Ontario, and Ben Shinos of Iron Mountain, MI; “all my children”: Linda Westbrook, Lois Maxwell, Carol Farrish, Peggy (Robert) McKechnie, Bonnie (Scott) Strelecki, Kenneth (Susan) Westbrook, Frank (Mary) McRorie, Glen (Julia) McRorie, Raymond (Debbie) McRorie, Edward McRorie, and Randy (Heather) McRorie; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two special friends: Frisky Young and Veronica Caskey.
He ws preceded in death by his wife: Josephine; as well as his parents, many brothers and sisters, two sons and three grandsons.
There will be visitation from 12 noon until 1 pm on Mon, Dec 29, 2014 at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home. A Funeral will be held that same day, starting at 1pm. Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens.
