Peter F. Weesies, 72, of Rapid City, died Sat, Mar 8, 1997, at his residence. 

Mr. Weessies moved to Kalkaska from Climax in 1969, and operated the Kalkaska True Value Hardware until his retirement in 1992. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and has been active in Kalkaska community affairs. He, along with Dave Zemke, was instrumental in Kalkaska downtown parking development. Mr. Weessies was a member of the Kalkaska Rotary Club, the US-131 Association, and the Kalkaska Church of Christ, where he had served as deacon and had been active in the building and maintenance of the Wilderness Christian Camp. 

Born in Valley Springs, SD, on Feb 2, 1925; he was the son of Everett and Alice (Barrett) Weessies. On Jan 12, 1985, in South Boardman, he was married to Muriel Snow, who survives. 

He is also survived by sons Brian (Joan) Weessies of Houston, TX, and Keith (Coleen) Weesies of Williamsburg; daughter Linda (Thomas) Karas of Lowell; stepsons Kenneth (Kay) Seabolt, Chris (Valerie) Seabolt, and Robert Snow, all of Kalkaska; stepdaughters, Karen (Eddie) Cockrellof Williamsburg, Susan Grose of Suttons Bay, Maire (Ed) Lash of Kalkaska, Sally (Joseph) Sprague of Rapid City, and Sheri Udell of Gaylord; brother Robert (Barbara) Weessies of Climax; grandchildren Chelsea, Kyle, and Stanley Karas; 31 step grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; one uncle, one aunt; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Brother Everett preceded him in death. 

Funeral services were held March 11 at the Kalkaska Church of Christ. E. Dan Johnson officiated. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska. 

Memorial gifts may be directed to the Kalkaska Church of Christ, Wilderness Christian Camp or North Country Hospice.
