Mr. Brewster died at his Pontiac home Sunday morning from pneumonia. The funeral occurred at his late residence Wed with burial at the Baldwin Cemetery.
The deceased was born in Rutland County, VT, Oct 27, 1809, and came to this county when but 15 years old and can truly be classed as one of the early pioneers of Old Oakland. His father purchased eighty acres of government land in Oakland township, and here Peter resided and grew up. This is part of the land now owned by his brother Allen. The deceased pursued the usual life of a farmer and stock raiser on the farm now owned by T.N. Frost until 1877, when he removed to what is now South Dakota and took up claim to which he afterwards added to purchase so as to make 320 acres. This he sold and again bought 160 acres which, we believe, he owned at the time of his death.
Mr. Brewster’s wife was a Swayze born in Warren county, N.J. and they were the parents of six children- DeWitt A. who died in 1891, Martin S., Mrs. Sarah Roulison, Mrs. Silas Hillman, William A, all of Pontiac and Clark Brewster, of the state of Washington.
Mr. Brewster was possessed of considerable property and had divided quite literally with his children, the lots in this village being among the reported gifts to Mrs. Roulison and Mrs. Hillman.
