Owen Allan Hoyt, 67, of 540 W. Ninth St., Traverse City, passed away suddenly December 8, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Livonia while visiting his daughter and son in law in that area.
Mr. Hoyt was born January 4, 1906 at Suttons Bay, the son of Marcus and Abigail Hoyt. He was a resident of that village until 1933 when he moved to Detroit, living there until 1955 when he returned to Traverse City. He was a graduate of Ferris State College, School of Pharmacy in 1928, was a pharmacist at Shapiro Drugs and the J.L. Hudson Co. Pharmacy and owned his own business for five years. After moving to Traverse City he worked at several local drug stores and in the pharmacies of the Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital and the Leelanau Memorial Hospital, Northport, until he became disabled and retired in 1971. A member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the church choir, Mr. Hoyt was a former member of Lions Clubs in Detroit and Traverse City.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Olson Hoyt, whom he married November 2, 1925 at South Bend, IN; one son, George Gary Hoyt of Detroit; two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Jackie) Laschen of Livonia and Mrs. Robert (Linda) DeLorme of Big Rapids; five grandchildren, Terry, Mary, Jenny, Matthew and Elaine; and oen niece, Mrs. Ben (Amy Jane) Taylor of Suttons Bay.
Funeral services will be Wed at 2pm at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. David Darling officiating. Interment will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Suttons Bay. Friends may call at the Martinson Funeral Home in Traverse City Tue evening from 7-9 and memorials may be directed to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church building fund.
