Otto A. Birgy, 84, of Fife Lake, died Sat, Sep 27, 1997, at his residence.
Mr. Birgy had been employed as a mover and rigger of heavy industrial machinery prior to his retirement. He spent his early years in Kalkaska County, and then lived and worked in various locations until 21 years ago when he returned to Kalkaska County. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Fife Lake and Iron Workers Local No 25 of Novi. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Born in Kalkaska County on Jun 16, 1913, he was the son of Joseph and Katie Wagner Birgy. He married Anita Bartholomew, in Kalkaska, on Feb 16, 1991, who survives.
Also surviving are his first family of sons, Ronald (Barbara) Birgy, Virgil (Geraldine) Birgy, and Otto J (Shirley) Birgy all of Fife Lake; daughters Donna Birgy and Joyce (Clarence) Hahn both of Fife Lake and Ruth Ann Birgy of Grayling; 14 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; of his second family, Donald (Bail) Birgy of Tucson, AZ; daughter Kathryn (Daniel) Thompson of Reno, NV; and four grandchildren; a stepson Norman (Pauline) Salenski of Kalkaska; brother Derwood Birgy and sister Ruth Beckering, all of Fife Lake.
A son, Robert, and six brothers and a sister, preceded him in death.
A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated Tuesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Fife lake. Father Walter Anthony officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorial gifts may be directed to St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
