Ora J. Bavin, 81, of Union City died Monday, Mar 8, 1999, in Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
He was born August 26, 1917, in South Boardman to Earl and Jennie (Wonsey) Bavin.
He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during WWII in the South Pacific. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon and three Bronze Battle Stars and six overseas service bars. He served as a radar specialist.
He was employed as a farmer for many years and worked at Union Pump, retiring in 1983.
He married Freda Motz Kleehammer on Oct. 14, 1944, in South Boardman. She survives.
Also surviving are stepsons, Larry Kleehammer of Richmond, VA, Cleo Kleehammer of Battle Creek; son, Steve Bavin of Coldwater; daughters, Rosemarie Hoffman of Bryan Texas, Carol Ann Forslund of Union City and Joyce Fierke of Battle Creek; 10 grandchildren, several step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Emma Kimbel of Phoenix AZ; and a brother, Earl Bavin Jr of Trout Creek.
He is preceded in death by a brother.
Community involvement/hobbies; enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and spending time with family.
Visitation 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Thur, at Putnam Funeral Home, Union City. Services 1pm Fri at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Cullison officiating.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Union City.
