Mrs. Opal M (Kent) Speet, 83, of Kalkaska, formerly of Atlanta, died Sat, Aug 23, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Speet had resided in Kalkaska for the past two years, after moving here from Bellaire. She had been active in the Full Gospel Assembly of God in Atlanta, where she taught Sunday School and Children's Church, and was later affiliated with the Bellaire Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and baking.
Born in Atlanta on Sep 19, 1913, she was the daughter of Fred and Hattie (Kollman) Cumper. She married Bruce Kent in Atlanta on Oct 29, 1931. He preceded her in death on Sep 5, 1964. On Jul 29, 1968, she was united in marriage to Rev. Fred Speet, who died on Jul 1, 1996.
Surviving are sons, Bill (Diane) Kent of Kalkaska, Dale (Joyce) Kent of Mayville, and Bruce (Donna) Kent of Atlanta; daughters, Peggy (Dwight) MacPherson of Mio, and Audrey (William) Whinnery of Kalkaska; step children, Debbie Collier and Charles Speet; brother, Earl Cumper of Birch Run; 35 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren.
Sons, Fred and Willard Kent, daughter, Barbara Austin, brothers, John and George Cumper and sister, Muriel Kent, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at 11 am wed at the Full Gospel Assembly of God in Atlanta. Rev. Dale Kent and Rev. Dwight MacPherson officiated. Burial was in Briley Township Cemetery, Montmorency County.
