Norma Jean (Welter) Durkee was born on May 7, 1924. Norma passed away quietly on Jan 18, 2020, at Traverse Manor, Traverse City, where she had been residing.
Norma attended Miami University in Ohio. During the summer of 1946 she worked at the Lake Placid Club, NY, where she met her future husband, Almon J Durkee. They were married on Jun 14, 1947 in Elkhart and resided most recently in Traverse City. AJ passed away in 2000.
Norma is survived by her seven children, Dee (Peter), David (Kathy), Debra (Harley), Douglas, Daniel (Jan), Darren (Karin), and Darrell (Janice); eight grandchildren; and one great grandson.
Norma played piano and cello, knit and worked in ceramics. She most enjoyed sewing and was a meticulous seamstress, selling items at local art fairs and from their cottage on Glen Lake. She loved staying at the family cottage and spent many summer days there.
She was happy traveling with AJ in Europe during the 1980's. Norma was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City.
A memorial service will be held on Sat, May 9, 2020 at 10:30 am at Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, 701 Westminster Rd, Traverse City, MI 49686.
