Myrtle F. Yoder, 84, of Rapid City, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2009 surrounded by her family at Bortz Health Care of Traverse City.
She was born in Chestonia, Michigan on September 23, 1924 to the late Samuel and Bertha (LaVanway) Sutton.
Myrtle grew up in Rapid City, attended school and graduated there. In May of 1944 she married Lewis Yoder. She was a longtime member of the Torch Lake Grange. Myrtle was employed as a teacher's aide at the Rapid City School as well as being employed at R.L. Polk of Traverse City until her retirement in 1970.
She enjoyed cooking and was known for her peanut butter cookies and peanut butter fudge. Myrtle also loved crafts, quilting, crocheting, and knitting. She would knit newborn baby hats and donate them to Munson Hopsital. Myrtle enjoyed working on genealogy.
Myrtle is survived by three daughters, Doris (William) Brown of Grand Rapids, Mary (Howard) Richards of Mancelona, and Lori (Larry) Czubak of Traverse City; three sons, Louis Dean Yoder of Kalkaska, Irvin (Carol) Yoder of Rankin, TX, and Robert (Tracie) Yoder of Kalkaska; two sisters, Marie Lawson of Baytown, TX, and Marion (Ted) Moody of Rapid City; plus many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Lewis in 1996; a daughter Marlene in 1990 and a daughter Jeanette in 2006; 2 grandsons, James Michael Milligan and Hutcherson Yoder; 2 brothers, Stanley Sutton and Harry Sutton; and 2 sisters, Clara Barnes and Dorothy Sutton.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Rapid City Church of Christ . Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Clearwater Township Cemetery.
