Miriam R. Smith, 73, of Fife Lake passed away at her home on Friday, March 7. 2003, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 7. 1929. in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Beldon and Ruth (Dwinell) McLaughlin.
Miriam married Harold F. Smith on May 29, 1948, in Grand Rapids. She retired from Traverse City State Hospital in 1985 after 20 years of service. Miriam enjoyed her family, bowling and loved to travel. She was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church of Fife Lake for 40 years and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 219 of Fife Lake.
Miriam is survived by her loving family, including her husband, Harold, of 54 years; her children, Michael R. (Debbie) Smith of Atlanta, Ga., John M. (Julie) Smith of Fife Lake, William H. (Lori) Smith of Traverse City and Janet A. (Kenneth) Hall of Interlochen; eight grandchildren; her brother, James B. McLaughlin of East Tawas; her sister-in-law, Marilou McLaughlin of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Miriam was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol L. Smith, in 1954 and her brother, John D. McLaughlin.
Visitation was held Sunday, March 9 for family and friends at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. The Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Fife Lake with the Rev. Patrick Maher officiating. Interment will be in Garfield Township Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in behalf of Miriam Smith to Munson Hospice. Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home.
