Milford "Slim" Garner, 73, of Traverse City, died Jan 5, 1999, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Born in Kalkaska Jun 14, 1925, he was the son of Kenneth and Elsie Mae (Parker) Garner.
Slim served with the paratroops division in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He moved to Traverse City from Kalkaska 55 years ago. He was with the Traverse City Police Department from 1953 to 1968, and left the department as a night captain. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Cherryland Post No 2780.
A licensed instrument rated piolt, he was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Polly A. (Hoffman) Garner; daughters Linda (Staley) Davis of Honor and JoAnne (Donald) Wheelock of Cedar; half brother Murray (Pauline) Garner Sr. of Kalkaska; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, several aunts, cousins, nieces and one nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Myndwell Garner, and his twin brother, Maurice.
Funeral services were held Jan 9 at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes; Rev. Bill LIpscomb officiated. A military honors service under the auspices of Traverse City VFW Cherryland Post No 2870 immediately followed the service.
