Mildred C. Zimmer, 83, of Bellaire, died Tue, Mar 21, 2000 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire.
Mrs. Zimmer was born in Kalkaska County on Mar 14, 1917, the daughter of Orange and Lelia (Canniff) Grove. She married Edward Zimmer in Rapid City on Dec 10, 1960. He preceded her in death on Aug 15, 1977.
A lifelong resident of Kalkaska and Antrim counties, Mrs. Zimmer began her postal career on Oct 29, 1956. On Sep 16, 1972, she was appointed Postmaster at Alden, serving there until her retirement on Jul 29, 1978. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and walking.
Surviving are sons Jerry McDonald, John (Carol) McDonald, and Ron (Roberta) McDonald all of Bellaire; stepson Larry (Bonnie) Zimmer of OK; stepdaughter Marion (Hank) Dekiere of South Lyon; sisters Clarice Strang and Alice Wiedman, both of Traverse; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Daughter Leora McDonald, brothers Isaac and Ward Grove; and sisters Olive Kinnison and Grace Zimmerman, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Mar 23 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Burial was in Helena Township Cemetery in Alden.
