Michael Powenski Jr., 78, of Sesser, III. and Kalkaska, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at Franklin Hospital.
Michael was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Benton, III., to Michael and Helen (Shibovich) Powenski Sr. He married Helen Rozenski in September 1950, who survives.
Michael was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Kalkaska, the National Rifle Association, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and member of the American Legion in Kalkaska.
He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking and reading.
Beside his wife, he is survived by sons, Larry (Kathleen) Powenski of Slaughter, La., and David (Sheryl) Powenski; grandchildren, Zachary, Sarah and Andrew of Walnut Hill, III.; brothers, John and Stanley of Chicago, Louis of Herrin and Marion of Benton.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Leo; and sisters, Rose and Ann.
Funeral services will be held today (Sept. 24), at Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser, with Father Steven Poole officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill, Sesser.
