Michael E. Michalak, 50. of Kalkaska, passed away Nov. 13, 2002. He was born March 5, 1952, in Hamtramck, the son of Norbert and Jane (Karaniewski) Michalak.
Michael graduated from the University of Detroit High School in 1969. Wayne State University in 1975 with a bachelor of arts in business administration and Detroit College of Law in 1979 with a Juris Doctorate. Michael had been practicing law since 1979 and in the Kalkaska area for the past 16 years. He was the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Alpena County and Presque Ile County from 1981 until 1985. Michael served as the Prosecuting Attorney for Kalkaska County from 1985 until 1992 and was then in general private practice.
He was a member of the Michigan Bar Association, St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church and a past member of the Rotary Club in Kalkaska. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting. sports, television, root beer and slurpies, and was an avid golfer.
Michael is survived by his family, including dear mother of Michael's children, Lisa of Kalkaska; children Justin S. Michalak, Adrienne L. Michalak, and Amanda I. Michalak, all of Kalkaska; parents Norbert and Jane Michalak of Warren; sisters Sharon (Ray) Ellerbe of New Baltimore, and Linda Lewandowski of Centerline; and brother Bruce Michalak of Warren.
Family visitation was Nov. 15 at Wolfe Funeral Home Wake service and Mass of Christian Burial were at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church on Nov. 16, with visitation one hour before the service. The Rev. Dale Magoon officiated.
