Melvina Larson, 83, of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, November 27, 2010. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Speaks. Burial in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.
Melvina was born March 21, 1927 in Madelia, MN to Joseph and Maude (Rifenberg) Phillips. She was an active and faithful member of the Atherton Restoration Branch. She was a woman's leader, taught Sunday school, and a leader for the youth group.
Mrs. Larson worked for over 20 years as a secretary and bookkeeper for the Alba, Michigan public school system. She loved her family dearly. Melvina enjoyed baking and made wedding cakes for many of her family and friends.
Mrs. Larson is survived by her children Nancy Ecker, Gordon Larson, Jr. and wife Cindy, Anita Turner and husband Rick, Betsy Trahern and husband Trent; grandchildren Nanie and Dan Downs, Amy and Craig Miller, Patricia and Anthony Garza, Leah and Jacob Trahern; great-grandchildren Susan and Samantha Downs, Quinn Miller; sister Anna Mae Kling; and by several nieces and nephews. Melvina was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Gordon Larson, Sr., son-in-law Gary Ecker; brothers Lawrence and Edwin Phillips.
