Melvina Jean LaPonsie, age 78, of Sault Ste Marie, MI passed away Tue, Mar 16, 2021, at Hearthside Assisted Living in Sault Ste Marie, MI.
Melvina was born on Feb 4, 1943, in Sault Ste Marie, MI to the late Dona and Florence (Mongeon) Beseau. On Apr 30, 1960, she married John L. LaPonsie, who was the father of her children. She graduated from Sault High School with the class of 1973. Melvina worked for the Sault Tour Trains and later as a dietitian at Provential House/ Tendercare for 22 years. Her last job was at Detroit Die Cutting Company. She enjoyed family get-togethers and cookouts. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she absolutely loved giving gifts to family and decorating her tree and house. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a great singing voice and enjoyed listening to country music. She was an incredible dancer. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and watching nature. She loved going to garage sales and the casino. She loved to munch on sour cream and onion potato chips while sipping on a cream soda when going on car rides. She loved her birds Sophie and Jake and her two cats Boots and Kitty. She also enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels outside and watching them.
Melvina is survived by her daughters: Debbie (Roy Carne) LaFaver of Sault Ste Marie, MI, Brenda (Leon) Derusha of Brimley, MI, and Yvonne LaPonsie of Rudyard, MI; eight grandchildren: Kenneth (Chelsea) LaFaver, Crystal (Jason Berg) LaFaver, Jessica (Roy) Bathgate, Ashley (Bryan) Bunker, Justin (Chelsea) Derusha, Jenna Derusha, Clinton LaFaver IV and Amanda LaPonsie; and 20 great grandchildren.
Melvina was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers: Alton, Peter, Ralph, Donald, Larry, and Alvin; and six sisters: Blanche, Donna, Darlene, Joyce, Wanda, and Rose Marie.
According to Melvina’s wishes, no public services will be held. Burial will be later in the spring.
