Mr. Melvin Emmit Hentschel, age 65, passed away at his home Sat, Dec 29 2012, surrounded by family. Mel was born Nov 12, 1947 in Muskegon to Ernest H. and Mable (Hanna) Hentschel. He worked at Challenge Machine as a painter and assembler for 32 years prior to his retirement. On Jun 12, 1992, Mel married the former Jean Van Bergen in Muskegon and she survives him. He volunteered his time throughout the years to the Noah Project, SPCA, Muskegon County REACT, and the Humane Society. Mel enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He also liked working on cars or just being outdoors. He was a hard worker, a great volunteer, and is survived by his two daughters, Megan (Andrew) Vasquez of Chandler, AZ and Lacey Hentschel of Muskegon; two grandchildren, Lexi and Makenna; brothers Gary (Penny) Hentschel of Grand Rapids, Daniel (Betty) Hentschel of Muskegon, and Bruce (Joan) Hentschel of Des Moines, IA; sister, Susan (Jerry) Winicki of Twin Lake; foster sister, Lea Schaub of Nunica; sister-in-law, Cathy Hentschel of Grand Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and three special sons, Elliot, Coco, and Toby. A MEMORIAL VISITATION will be held Monday, January 7, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at The Lee Chapel 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 INTERMENT will be in Fruitport Cemetery.
