Melburn W. Lewis, 88 of Kalkaska passed away at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center-Long Term Care on Tue, Dec 31, 2002.
He was born on Mar 14, 1914, in Kalkaska County, the son of Darwin and Matilda (Hagni) Lewis.
Mel married Mildred J Hall on Jul 4, 1936, in Traverse City and she preceded him in death on May 13, 1999.
Mel was a lifelong resident of Kalkaska County. He and Mildred owned and operated a service station, where he was the mechanic until retirement.
He was a past village president and council member on the Village of Kalkaska Board of Trustees, jury board member and on the Board of Canvassers. Mel was a member of the Kalkaska Church of Christ.
Mel is survived by his children, George (Sonja) Lewis, Dick Lewis, and Carol (Herb) Mitchell, all of Kalkaska; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at 1 pm on Sat, Jun 28 at the Evergreen Cemetery chapel in Kalkaska.
