Maxine June Steuer, 54, of Traverse City, died Jan 9, 1995, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Funeral will be 11 am Thu, Jan 12 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Traverse City, with the Rev. Bradley J Will officiating. Burial will take place in Memorial Gardens, Traverse City.
She was born Aug 9, 1940, in Suttons Bay, the daughter of Francis “Pete” and Josephine (Olson) Herman. She graduated from Suttons Bay High School in 1958, and then completed the Royal Oak School of Cosmetology.
On Oct 17, 1964, she married Walter Carl Steuer at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Traverse City, and he survives.
Mrs. Steuer was a partner and the backbone of the pumping service business she and her husband operated for 24 years. She also operated her own beauty shop for 33 years in Traverse City.
She was a member of the F.O.E. auxiliary Aerie No 383 in Traverse City, and the National Hairdresser and Cosmetology Association.
Survivors include her husband, Walter C. Steuer of Traverse City; one daughter, Lori Jo Hurlbut and her husband David, of Hart; one son, Jeffrey C. Steuer, of Traverse City; one granddaughter, Jessica Hurlbut; her mother, Josephine Herman of Suttons Bay; three sisters, Betty Groesser and her husband Loren of Ellsworth, Ruby LaCross of Suttons Bay and Lynn Leabo of Traverse City; one brother, Danny Herman and his wife, Dorothy of Traverse City; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Steuer was preceded in death by her father in 1989, and by an infant sister, Nancy Louise, in 1941.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the trust fund set up for Mrs. Steuer’s granddaughter’s college fund, which has been arranged at Old Kent Bank/ Grand Traverse. Friends may call 5 to 9 pm today, Jan 10 and 2 to 9 pm Wed, Jan 11, at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
